First Nissan Tekton Models Shipped for South African Launch

The Nissan Tekton is on its way to South Africa, with Nissan Motor India confirming that the first batch of 1,300 units destined for South Africa, Bhutan and Nepal has now been shipped. The shipment marks the first phase of the new SUV’s overseas rollout, following its launch in the Indian market earlier this year.

The Tekton’s arrival in India has coincided with a marked improvement in Nissan’s domestic sales performance. According to Autocar India, Nissan India sold 3,246 vehicles in August 2026, up 147% year-on-year from the 1,384 units sold in the same month last year, a rise the company has attributed largely to the Tekton’s rollout alongside sustained volumes across its existing SUV range.

Commenting on the model’s performance, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, said the response to the new SUV had been encouraging. “At the same time, our export business continues to demonstrate the global competitiveness of vehicles manufactured in India and underlines the strategic importance of our Indian operations within Nissan’s global network,” he said. “As we expand the Tekton’s presence across domestic and international markets, we remain focused on delivering innovative products, a differentiated customer experience and sustainable growth for the business.”

Speaking at the model’s unveiling in July, Nissan’s Chief Performance Officer, Guillaume Cartier, said the Tekton would eventually reach 50 global markets. “As we continue to strengthen our SUV-led portfolio and sharpen our market focus, the world premiere of the all-new Nissan Tekton reflects our ambition to leverage strategic partnerships to expand our market coverage,” he said. “Tekton is a clear expression of how Nissan is transforming with purpose, towards a more competitive, diverse portfolio.”

Nissan says the Tekton has been developed with continuous consumer insight, shaping everything from its design and technology to its comfort and practicality around real-world feedback. Its styling draws heavily on the much larger Nissan Patrol, while underneath, the Tekton is built on the shared Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-B platform, the same architecture found in the India-built Renault Duster that recently arrived in South Africa.

Confirmed standard features for the Tekton include a spacious cabin, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, generous storage and a large luggage compartment. The SUV also introduces Google-powered connectivity, including Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play, alongside a digital cockpit experience and connected services designed to make everyday driving more intuitive.

The Tekton is equipped with a range of active and passive safety features, including a reinforced structure and six airbags. Driver assistance technology extends to Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Warning.

South African buyers will be offered a choice of two turbocharged petrol powertrains, both shared with the India-built Renault Duster range. The 1.0-litre unit produces 74 kW and 166 Nm and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The more powerful 1.3-litre unit produces up to 120 kW and 280 Nm and can be specified with either the same six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed DCT with an e-shifter.

Performance and fuel consumption figures for both configurations have not yet been confirmed, though they are expected to be broadly in line with the Duster’s sub-6.0 l/100 km figures. Full details, along with the Tekton’s official local launch date, will only be confirmed closer to its South African introduction.
