South Africa has become the first market in the world to receive the all-new Nissan TEKTON. The compact SUV launched in Pretoria on 21 September 2026, with styling that draws directly from the flagship Nissan Patrol and a promise of new levels of refinement, driving enjoyment and space in its segment.

The launch was the highlight of a three-day Nissan festival that included an African Media Day, an investor conference and the South African Dealer of the Year gala, with a fleet and employee day rounding off the final day.

Nissan's bigger plans for Africa

Nissan’s long-term direction is guided by its customer-centric vision, “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life”, explained Jordi Vila, President of Nissan Africa. The strategy centres on next-generation technologies, a streamlined product portfolio, a redefined global market approach and an industrial model built around clearly defined vehicle families.

“Nissan is committed to Africa. This is a continent with incredible potential and is truly the world’s last automotive frontier. We see South Africa as a critical gateway to unlocking the potential of the African Century,” said Vila.

The TEKTON is part of a wider product push in South Africa. The new Nissan X-TRAIL has already arrived, while the upgraded Nissan Navara, the eighth-generation Nissan Patrol and a special-edition X-TRAIL are scheduled for this fiscal year, with further launches planned for FY27.

Mohamed Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Africa, believes the SUV segment will drive Africa’s automotive growth, making the festival an important regional milestone. “The launch of the all-new Nissan TEKTON in South Africa illustrates the evolution of our regional strategy: bringing globally relevant products to African customers, supported by strong market insight, a trusted dealer network and a commitment to long-term value. Our focus is clear: to compete with purpose, earn customer confidence every day and build a Nissan brand ready for Africa’s future.”

For Juan Wheeler, Managing Director of Nissan South Africa, the TEKTON arrives at a defining moment for the local business. “South Africans know Nissan. For 65 years, our vehicles have been part of daily life, and with that legacy comes the responsibility to introduce models that speak to the real needs of this market. It’s a story built on trust, resilience, people and products that have moved generations.”

“Great automotive brands are built through moments that connect product, people and purpose,” said Ramy Mohareb, Head of Brand and Communications, Nissan Africa. “With its bold, Patrol-inspired design, smart connectivity, practical space and confident turbocharged performance, the TEKTON is crafted to stand out. It is designed for an important market segment, young families making their first move up, and we have no doubt that it will become another iconic Nissan nameplate in the SUV segment.”

The TEKTON is built in Chennai, India, at a global export hub that supplies 50 markets across the Middle East and Africa.

A clear family resemblance to the Patrol

The TEKTON carries Nissan’s 75-year SUV heritage with real road presence and an unmistakable nod to the Patrol. Its well-proportioned silhouette features sculpted lines, muscular arches, aero-tuned spoilers, flush roof rails and a full-width, chrome-accented grille.

Up front, signature C-shaped connected LED headlamps with daytime running lights mirror the look of the new Patrol. At the rear, SynchroFlow C-shaped connected LED tail lamps and a double-C contrast skid plate anchor the design. Every model gets LED lighting front and rear.

A squared-off bonnet flows into large, squared-off fenders and a faux skid plate integrated into the front bumper. Wheel sizes of 17 and 18 inches, along with 212 mm of ground clearance, complete the SUV stance.

Two turbo-petrol engines to choose from

The TEKTON range is powered exclusively by turbo-petrol engines. The 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder produces 74 kW and 160 Nm and is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 1.3-litre turbo four-cylinder delivers 120 kW and 260 Nm to the front wheels through a dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

A cabin built around family life

Practicality is a highlight, with a class-leading 700-litre boot that grows to 1,789 litres with the rear seats folded.

Every TEKTON comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a fully digital instrument cluster, and an e-shifter with paddle shifters. All derivatives except the 1.0 Visia are fitted with an electronic parking brake.

The Tekna and Tekna+ grades add dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, push-button start, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, a powered driver’s seat and an exclusive two-tone paint finish, while the flagship gains a powered tailgate.

Safety equipment across the range

Every TEKTON is equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with disc brakes all round, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and tyre-pressure monitoring.

Higher trim levels add a Multi View Camera, rain-sensing wipers and a suite of driver assistance systems, including Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control.

TEKTON pricing and colours

Five derivatives are available now. The range opens with the 1.0 Visia manual at R339,999, followed by the 1.3 Visia DCT at R399,999 and the 1.3 Acenta DCT at R459,999. The 1.3 Tekna DCT is priced at R499,999, while the range-topping 1.3 Tekna+ DCT costs R529,999.

Every model comes with a six-year/150,000 km mechanical warranty with roadside assistance, and a two-year/60,000 km service plan. Buyers can choose from a wide range of colours, including two-tone Pearl White, Red, Silver, Blue and Moonbow (Grey) for the Tekna and Tekna+.

A first look at the new Patrol

As the model that inspired the TEKTON’s design and engineering, the new Nissan Patrol was also on show at the launch. The eighth-generation Patrol is due in South Africa in the first quarter of 2027, where it will take its place at the top of the local Nissan line-up.

Developed from the ground up, it is the most advanced and capable Patrol yet. Power comes from a turbocharged petrol V6 that traces its lineage back to the Nissan GT-R, producing 317 kW and 700 Nm while using 25% less fuel than its predecessor. The new flagship will offer a comprehensive range of luxury and off-road features, advanced driver assistance systems and a striking modern design.

X-TRAIL Rock Creek adds rugged style

A special-edition Nissan X-TRAIL Rock Creek was also on display. Based on the flagship X-TRAIL, it comes fully equipped with a comprehensive driver assistance suite, seven seats, all-wheel drive, an all-leather interior, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and dual-zone climate control.

The Rock Creek adds a custom Baja Storm paint finish, red Nissan badging normally reserved for flagship models, a unique lower bumper with integrated bash plate, and a darkened roof for a two-tone look. Inside, the red theme continues with red double stitching on the soft-touch dashboard, doors and centre console, while Hill Descent Control adds extra capability.
